Thank you @themelancholypenguin for being my prep companion, cheerleader, and hype girl! And thank you @kachiu3 for coming all the way out and being my first customer!! Two days until my first market! Come see me at @nampafm for the first week of the Winter Wonderland Market this Saturday between 11-3! These beauties will be for sale, along with plenty of art prints and some hand embroidered shirts. New teacups and bowls coming soon!! I hope your week has been sunny 😎 Ten months ago I picked up pottery again for the first time in over ten years and yesterday I finished teaching my first pottery class! 4th, 5th, and 6th graders learned about working with clay, avoiding cracks/air bubbles, rolling out even coils, attaching pieces of clay together, and the whole process of pottery! I’m really bad at documenting the process, so here are some of the instructional illustrations I made, and swipe to the end to see some student work that was on its way to be bisque-fired. Later on, I’ll share some photos of their final pieces 😄 Here’s part two: shaping! I’m going for about as round as I possibly can, trying to match the height and opening diameter of the pieces on the shelf beside me. Widening the walls, rounding them out, checking the size, cleaning up slip with a rib…wash, rinse, repeat. This is the most I’ve ever done throwing multiples of the same shape! I’ll be back with the next part of the process soon 😉 Part one of throwing some small cups! These are the first installment in a series of pieces that I’m stoked to share more about later 😉
